Description
Pen-y-braich is a pair of single-storey cottages, built in the 19th century, aligned roughly from north-east to south-west. The larger cottage on the right has a two-room layout, while the smaller one has a single room. Both cottages feature small lean-tos at the rear and are constructed from painted rubblestone with a slate roof.
The right cottage has 20th-century four-paned top-hung windows that replicate the appearance of 19th-century sash windows, positioned on either side of an offset plank door. It also has a rebuilt integral end stack on the right and a similar ridge stack on the left, located at the junction with the left cottage. The left cottage features top-hung windows as well, with one in the center and another to the left of the ridge stack, which infills a former doorway. There is an integral end stack on the left side as well.
Additionally, there is a probably truncated outbuilding slightly set down from the gable end of the right cottage, which has a tin roof and boarded double doors at the front. The rear lean-tos have top-hung windows on their back walls, with a 20th-century boarded door located between them in the main back wall. The interior was not accessible during the survey.
