Description

This is a farmhouse, dating back to the 17th century, with a roughly T-shaped layout. The main block runs north-south. The exterior is constructed of roughly coursed rubble stone, with larger blocks forming quoins and a boulder plinth to the ground floor of the main section. The first floor and additions use smaller blocks, and the entire building is now painted. It has a grouted slate roof.

The west front features a 1:1:2 window arrangement, with late 20th-century casement windows in earlier openings. A two-story porch has a recessed 20th-century doorway (replacing an original window) and a late 17th-century crow-stepped gable. A ground-floor window just to the right is set within an angled splay, replacing a smaller 20th-century porch that was not the original entrance. A stair window is situated in the angle between the porch and the main range, along with an integrated stack with a stone base and a brick shaft. A large single-story lean-to is attached to the right gable end of the main range, and there is a single window to the first floor of the left gable end. A substantial stone stack with a chamfered base and slate drips is located behind the ridge, roughly in line with the 17th-century porch. The rear (east) elevation has an integral end stack on a slightly lower projecting gabled range. Lean-to additions, a two-story section, and a doorway are also present.

The farmhouse has undergone significant remodelling in the 1950s and again in the 1990s, resulting in alterations to or removal of many original features. Despite this, the original layout remains visible. A ground-floor room to the north of the main stack, which was previously divided, retains three cross beams, including one to the end wall and one aligned with the stack, supported by flat, heavy joists. A slightly larger room to the south has two spine beams and a cross beam, which are chamfered with broach stops. A four-panel door leads to the rear range. A 20th-century staircase, situated near the former winder stair in the porch, has a window with a chamfered wooden frame and mullion. A low doorway with a cambered head connects a bedroom in the eastern projection with the two-story lean-to on the north side. The main range has a good 6-bay roof structure of substantial pegged A-frame trusses with lime torching between rafters.
