Description

The castellated garden walls and towers at Castell Deudraeth are constructed from rubble and date from the 19th century. The wall begins at the southwest corner of Castell Deudraeth, standing approximately 4 meters high. It extends southwest for about 25 meters, enclosing the lawns behind the house on the left side and serving as a high revettment with a terrace above. Along this section, there are three deep niches, each featuring a depressed brick arch, spaced roughly 5 meters apart. At the end of this stretch is a square tower that rises to about 8 meters, complete with a corner turret on the east side and a plain opening with a slate lintel on the northeast side. The southeast side, facing the lawn, has Gothick pointed-arched windows on both the ground and upper floors.

Beyond the tower, the wall continues for a similar distance but has fewer crenellations and is slightly shorter. In front of this section is a low terrace with a 1-meter revettment, accessible via steps at the tower. The wall then makes a right-angle turn and rises beyond an opening onto the low terrace, continuing northwest for approximately 15 meters. This stretch ends with a plain, wide opening, leading to a part-castellated square tower about 4 meters high. This tower is castellated only on the northeast and southeast sides, which face the house, and it conceals a simple single-storey lean-to store with a modern boarded southwest side.

The wall makes another right-angle turn at this point and runs for about 22 meters in a northeast direction back towards the house, parallel to the lower wall, before terminating in another tower. At the end of the lower terrace wall, a further low wall adjoins and arcs widely to follow the lane, stepping up and down at heights of 1 meter and 2 meters variably. This section eventually ends in a flight of steps with iron railings towards the southeast corner of the house. Approximately two-thirds along this last stretch of wall is a tall, circular turret with an open rear.
