Description
Nazareth Chapel is an impressive town chapel built in the Victorian classical style. It features a construction of rendered rubble with a slate roof, and the facade is made of snecked, quarry-dressed blocks with grey limestone dressings. The symmetrical facade consists of six bays, with the central pair slightly projecting forward. The second and fifth bays, which flank the central pair, have entrances that are adorned with classical open porches. These porches are supported by square pillars that carry entablatures topped with shallow pediments, and they feature 6-panel doors with 3-pane overlights. Each bay has tall arched windows, with the ones above the entrances being shorter and squatter. The central pair of windows has moulded archivolts with keys and imposts, while the other bays are quoined. The corners of the building also have similar quoins. At the top, there is a classical balustrade and cornice, which includes central and outer urn finials, with the central finials flanking a recessed rectangular stone inscribed with the word "Nazareth." Throughout the chapel, the 2-light windows have 8-pane fixed glazing.
The rear elevation is roughcast and consists of four bays, featuring 4-pane sashes across two floors with marginal glazing. On the right-hand side, there is a single-storey projecting boilerhouse with a slate roof.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
