Description

Bryntirion is a Grade II* listed building constructed of coursed rubble with slate roofs. It is primarily two storeys with an attic, featuring a main front that consists of four window bays. To the north, there is a lower structure that was formerly used for service accommodation and does not have an attic. A rubble screen wall separates Bryntirion from Bryntirion Bach.

The main front, facing east, is composed of two sections, with the more northerly part dating from an early 19th-century remodelling and built of slightly different stone. It has twelve-paned sash windows and an off-centre portico with a panelled surround, a porch supported by replaced Ionic columns, and half-glazed doors. The attic features four gabled dormer windows with 12-pane sashes set in a tall hipped roof. The south front is rendered and lined, showcasing 2-pane 19th-century sash windows on either side of a projecting, canted four-storey central bay, which also has four-pane sash windows. Uniquely, gabled dormers with similar windows are present on all three faces of this central bay, and similar gabled dormers illuminate the attic of each side bay. At the southern end, there is a rustic archway primarily constructed of drystone. The building is topped with two tall chimney stacks that have multiple flues.

Inside, the main rooms are accessed from a long entrance hall that features segmental arches, a deeply moulded cornice, and architraves surrounding the six-panelled doors. The windows have panelled shutters. An early 18th-century dog-leg staircase with a shaped handrail and turned balusters is located off the corridor. One of the rooms includes a Dinorwic slate chimneypiece. The house is reported to retain a strongroom for the estate deeds, and it has a stone-flagged and brick-vaulted cellar.
