Description
The former National School, built in the early 19th century and raised by one storey with later enlargement in the late 19th century, is a two-storey building featuring a two-window range. To the left (south) is a lower single-window range that served as the former schoolhouse, and to the north is a single-storey wing with a parapet. The structure is constructed of rubble masonry, with some areas rendered. The ground floor openings of the school have dressed stone arches, and the windows are fitted with slate sills. The roof is slate with tiled copings; the school has a rectangular brick gable stack with capping on the right (north), while the schoolhouse has a broader rendered gable stack with capping on the left.
The principal elevation faces the church to the northeast. The school features a two-window range with a doorway between the windows, which are offset to the left (south). The ground floor openings have arched heads, and the arch over the doorway is engraved with the words 'National School'. The flanking, taller windows are recessed casements with Gothic glazing bars, while the first-floor windows are 12-pane casements located directly under the eaves. The single-window range to the left (south) includes a doorway with a rough stone voussoir cambered head on the right and replacement casement windows on both storeys to the left. The single-storey wing to the right (north) has two arched windows with Gothic glazing bars.
The interior was not inspected during the survey.
