Description
The gardener's cottage and walled garden at Plas Gwyn date from the 18th century. The enclosed garden spans approximately 0.5 square kilometers, with walls made of handmade 18th-century bricks that rise to about 3.5 meters in height, topped with flat slate coping. There are entrances located in the south, west, and east walls. Along the outer north wall, there are several buildings, including the gardener's cottage and outbuildings.
The cottage is positioned at a right angle to the outer north wall of the garden. It is a two-storey structure made of rendered brick with a gabled roof. The south end features a canted bay that houses the entrance, which is sheltered by a verandah with a slate roof that extends along the west and north walls. The slate roof includes shaped and pierced barge and eaves boards, and the windows are small-paned casements. Although the cottage and nearby buildings could not be closely inspected during the survey, it is noted in the Register of Parks and Gardens that there is a single-storey barn to the west and a shed and smithy to the east.
The interior was not inspected at the time of the survey.
