Description

Craig Hyfryd is a pair of reflected houses situated within a group of four at 47-49 Castle Street. The houses are two storeys with attics and a basement, featuring a rendered front with channelled rustication in the lower storey, and mansard slate roofs supported by a moulded eaves cornice, with two stacks on each end. The entrances are within the inner bays, each featuring a panelled door with a plain overlight, sheltered by a canopy resting on deep corbels. The outer bays have four-pane sash windows with keyed heads. First-floor windows are accentuated by a sill band and architraves, which incorporate consoles supporting stilted and moulded segmental heads with keystones, each containing four-pane sashes. The attic level has a sill band and incorporates gabled half-dormers in the outer bays, again with four-pane sash windows within similar architraves as the first floor. Basement windows are also segmental-headed. Original cast iron rainwater goods are present on the front elevation. The property at number 47 retains original forecourt railings with spear finials, atop a dwarf wall, along with an iron gate; number 49 has replacement railings. In the gable ends, the pebble-dashed walls are recessed between the stacks.
