Description

This is a two-storey, three-window farmhouse range, originally a two-window design which was extended to the left (south) by the addition of a single-window bay. A single-storey dairy is set at right angles to the rear southwest corner.

The farmhouse is built with roughcast render over stone, featuring a roof of small, old slates, grouted and with stone copings. Rendered rectangular stacks with dripstones and capping are present, with gable stacks to the main block and at the southern end. The east-facing front elevation has a wide doorway offset to the right, within a rendered, gabled porch. Flanking the doorway are 16-pane hornless sash windows, though the one to the left has been enlarged into a modern casement. The added bay to the left features a single window on each floor, both modern casements. The rear elevation shows a 16-pane hornless sash stair window slightly offset to the south, with a 9-pane hornless sash ground-floor window to the north. Above this is a 4-paned, horned sash. The windows to the right are offset to the far south end of the main block, comprising a 9-pane hornless sash directly under the eaves above a 9-pane light, possibly within the remains of an original rear entrance. The added bay has a larger, 12-pane, first-floor window above the rear door.

The dairy is constructed of stone, limewashed, with a modern slate roof. It contains a two-window range with a central doorway, featuring a boarded door with a shallow rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. The windows have 9-pane lights with timber ventilation grilles and internal shutters, along with stone sills and lintels. A modern half-glazed replacement of an earlier stone-built porch forms a lean-to in the angle.

The main entrance opens into a central hallway with principal rooms to the left and right, and a staircase to the rear. An axial corridor to the rear leads off to the left. The room on the left is enclosed by timber partitioning, and contains a deep, rough-hewn, chamfered beam running from front to back, likely surviving from an earlier internal layout. At the north end of the range is the kitchen, featuring a massive inglenook fireplace which is now enclosed, with a range to one side and a former pump room on the other.
