Description
The Coachhouse at Craig-y-Don is a single-storey and attic structure built in rubble, featuring five bays on one side and one bay on the other. The front is roughcast, topped with a hipped slate roof that has wide swept eaves over a verandah supported by cast iron columns on stone plinths, with trellis work above, similar to the lodge porch. The pavement in front is cobbled. The roof includes attic skylights and a central bellcote, although the bell is missing.
On the right side, there are two tall coach entrances with boarded doors. To the left is the former coachman’s cottage, which has a boarded door in the center, flanked by a 12-pane sash window and a 3-light small pane casement. At the right end of the building, steps lead up to the loft, while at the left end, beyond the verandah, there is a set-back gabled cross range. The first floor features a 3-light small pane casement with Gothic tracery and a Tudor hoodmould, which may resemble the type of window originally found on the main house. The ground floor has been altered for open storage, and there are two camber-headed openings on the left end, each with Tudor hoodmoulds.
