Description
The Boathouse of Plas Newydd is a single-storey building with a rectangular plan, featuring three doorways and three windows on the eastern front. It has a hipped roof covered with large slates arranged in diminishing courses, and wooden eaves soffits. The walls are made of squared stone on the front, while the side and rear walls are constructed from rubble. The central openings have cambered voussoir heads, while the openings at either end have flat heads. There is a mullioned window in the sail room on the right side, and octagonal brick chimneys are located at both ends of the rear wall.
Internally, the boathouse is divided into a central room with two additional rooms on either side. The interior features tongued and grooved panelling and the underside of the roof is also paneled. The workshop on the left includes a large fireplace and wooden steps leading to a rope loft that extends over part of the central room. On the right side is the sail store, which contains a small cast-iron fireplace. The internal doors leading to the sail room and workshop are six-panel doors. The roof structure consists of sawn and bolted queen post trusses with struts.
