Description
This is a war memorial clock tower, built in three stages. The lowest stage is made of rock-faced limestone masonry, with the builder's name and construction date incised at the southeast corner. The upper stages are made of ashlar and feature chamfered angles. Each stage has a moulded cornice, and the clock stage has a cornice arched over each clock face. The tower is topped with a domed cap that has a plain cross.
On the south face of the second stage, there is a rectangular commemorative plaque dedicated to the men of Gwalchmai who fell in the First World War, with a shorter plaque added on the east face after the Second World War. The south face also features a wreath in bas-relief above the memorial plaque, while the other faces have narrow, elliptical-headed louvred ventilation slits. Each face of the clock stage has a circular clock face with a moulded surround, and access to the clock workings is through a narrow doorway on the rear (north) elevation.
