Description
The Co-Operative Stores, located at 13-19 Main Street in West Calder, is a three-storey commercial and domestic block designed by William Baillie of Glasgow in 1913. The building features a symmetrical façade with Renaissance details, including outer gables that are crowstepped and topped with thistle finials. It has steep-pitched French roofs covered in slate, and at the center, there is a large, delicate open-worked iron crown. The ground floor has been modernized for a shop, while the upper levels showcase contrasting grey and red ashlar stonework, with banding at the second floor. The arched outer panels extend into the gable heads, and the lower gable is central, featuring square bartizans. The building is adorned with sash windows.
