Description
This is the South Wing of Champfleurie Home Farm, built in 1845. It is a U-shaped steading which has been altered for residential use, displaying Tudor Revival details. The building is constructed of cream-coloured, stugged, coursed sandstone rubble, with the west elevation (the principal facade) being squared.
The west range is a two-storey former stable block. The west elevation has 11 symmetrical bays, featuring a moulded string course, bipartite windows, hoodmoulds, and a crenellated parapet. The central three bays are slightly advanced and taller, as are the gabled end bays. There are doorways in the centre, and in the second and fourth bays from the right, and in the corresponding bays on the left. Blocked doorways are located in each end bay, with bipartite windows filling the remaining bays at ground and first floor levels. The east (courtyard) elevation comprises 13 bays, with three Tudor-arched carriage arches in the taller central section. Above the arches is a bipartite window with a wooden mullion, formerly serving as a hayloft. To the left are six bays, with a door flanked by windows in each of the three bays. To the right are four bays, each containing a door and window. A small bipartite window sits above the door on the far right. The ground floor windows have 8 panes, while those on the first floor have 6 panes. The east elevation features 8-pane and 12-pane sash and case windows, with the carriage archway glazed.
The north range is a single-storey structure. Its north elevation has 9 asymmetrical bays, with doorways in the second and fifth bays from the right. A round-headed arch to the outer left has been glazed into a window. The south (courtyard) elevation has 6 asymmetrical bays with doorways in the first, second, and fifth bays from the left.
The east range is also single-storey. Its west (courtyard) elevation has 3 asymmetrical bays. The buildings are arranged in a U-plan arrangement, joined at right angles to the southeast. A two-storey house adjoins the east range, with a gabled west elevation including a bipartite window on the first floor. Ashlar coped skews, ball finials to the skewputts, and a tall stack to the right are also present. Single-storey wings extend from the north and south gabled end walls, connected by a wall containing a doorway to the main courtyard.
The building has a grey slate roof with Velux rooflights. Ashlar coped and moulded skews are visible, along with blocked skewputts. A group of three moulded and coped polygonal ashlar stacks rise from the gables of the central three-bay block.
The steading was recorded in 1845 as being "in the course of erection" and "very superior." Sash and case windows are present throughout.
