Bathgate Academy, Marjoribanks Street, Bathgate

Bathgate Academy, located on Marjoribanks Street in Bathgate, was built between 1831 and 1833 by architects R and R Dickson from Edinburgh. This building showcases a Greek Revival style with Doric ashlar detailing.

The central block features a distyle in antis design, with a clock tower above that is flanked by horizontal consoles and topped by an open belfry. Behind the clock tower is a piended slated roof. The central block is connected to two pedimented and pilastered pavilions by loggias, which have balustraded parapets and platform roofs. At either end of the building are low offices. In front, there is a very broad flight of steps leading up to the entrance.

At the rear of the pavilions, there are additions that are designed in a similar style, maintaining the overall architectural coherence of the academy.
