Description
This is a late 18th century house, built with cream sandstone rubble and ashlar margins, situated at the foot of the railway viaduct. The house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical rectangular plan with three widely-spaced bays.
The north (entrance) elevation features a fanlight above the central door, which is flanked by windows. The first floor has regular fenestration. The east-facing side elevation has a blocked gablehead window. The south (rear) elevation contains a door to the outer right and a blocked door converted into a window in the centre, with two windows above. The windows are 4-pane sash and case. The roof is grey slate, with ashlar coped skewes and skewputts, modern rooflights to the north and south, and brick gable stacks.
Inside, a central winding stair has a cast-iron balustrade and a wooden handrail.
A single-storey, rectangular outbuilding stands nearby, constructed of cream sandstone rubble. It has a door to the north elevation, a window to the south elevation, and a blocked window to the east. The outbuilding has been heightened, with a line of former gable visible on the west elevation. It is topped with a modern pantiled roof, slate eaves, ashlar coped skewes, and skewputts.
The buildings were undergoing repair in July 1990, and two new dwellings have since been built to the east.
