Description
Blackburn House is a house dating from the later 18th century, built in a Georgian style. It is a two-storey building with a basement and attics to the rear, and has a five-window front. The walls are of coursed rubble, with corner stones, and the roof is hipped and slate-covered. A projecting central pavilion features a portico with a distyle in antis design. There are two polygonal projecting bays to the rear. The interior retains original six-panelled doors and other timber woodwork, along with plaster relief decoration. It is thought the house may have been built for George Moncrieff, an agricultural improver of Blackburn.
Adjacent to the house are offices, two storeys in height and built of random rubble with piended, slate-covered roofs. These are linked to the main house by quadrant walls.
