Description
2 Station Road in Dumbarton is a four-storey corner tenement block designed by architect J M Crawford in 1898, showcasing Scots Baronial detailing. The building features stugged ashlar with polished dressings. Both main elevations are broadly similar, consisting of eight irregular bays and a taller five-storey canted angle bay. This angle bay has blind bipartites at each level above a pedimented public house doorway and is topped by a corbelled rectangular chamber with crow-stepped gables and a conical-roofed angle turret. Each main elevation includes a three-storey canted window off-centre beneath a crow-stepped gable, along with square-headed close openings, doors, and windows that have pedimented dormer heads on the third storey. Most windows retain either 15 or 25-pane upper sashes. The building features corniced wall-head stacks set behind the crow-stepped gables, along with additional apex stacks and slated roofs.
