Description
Mountblow Football Pavilion, located on Lilac Avenue in Clydebank, was likely built by Clydebank Burgh Council around 1937. It is a rare example of a Modern Movement sports pavilion that has largely remained unaltered and is situated in its original recreation ground setting. The pavilion is a two-storey building with a raised basement, featuring a rectangular plan with five bays on a sloping site. It has a cantilevered balcony, an oversailing flat roof, and a tall off-centre curved stair tower with vertical glazing that breaks the eaves. There are two flights of steps leading to a walkway above the basement. The exterior is finished in rendered brick.
The pavilion includes horizontal-pane glazing in metal-framed casements, primarily in tripartite and bipartite arrangements, though it now has later metal grilles on the exterior. The entrance doors are fitted with later metal roller shutters.
Inside, the floor plan is largely intact. Both the ground and first floors are similar, featuring concrete floors. Changing rooms are accessible from a central corridor, with each floor containing a bathroom equipped with showers. Some early timber benches and coat hooks are present, and the stairway has horizontal metal banisters.
