Description

There are two K8 public telephone kiosks located at the northeast end of Erskine Bridge in Old Kilpatrick. The K8 kiosk was designed in 1965 by Bruce Martin for the General Post Office and was produced until 1983. Two additional K8 kiosks, which are listed separately, can be found at the south end of the bridge.

These kiosks are made of cast iron with an aluminium door featuring a recessed handle, all painted red. Three sides, including the door, are fitted with large single sheets of toughened glass in rectangular frames with rounded corners. The solid back panels are shaped to match the dimensions of the glazing. Each kiosk has a cill ring between the main body and the flat roof section. The corners of the roof sections are slightly tilted back, and illuminated TELEPHONE signs are set into each face, with the west kiosk featuring a decorative embossed ridge. The doors are secured with brass hinges and leather straps. Each kiosk is equipped with 'pay on answer' telephone equipment and an integrated shelf unit.
