Description
Rossbank Farm is a single-storey and attic farmhouse dated 1853, featuring a symmetrical rectangular plan with three bays and a gabled roof. The building is constructed from whinstone and sandstone rubble with harl and cement pointing, showcasing polished margins and chamfered reveals. The pointed arch openings and projecting bracketed eaves add to its architectural character.
On the main elevation, there is a steeply gabled porch that is slightly advanced at the center, featuring a modern door with a Y-tracery fanlight and an escutcheon above that reads "Built by Sir James Colquhoun Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, 1853." Flanking the porch are bipartite windows at the ground level, with gabled dormerheads above. The lower gable ends of the pavilion outbuildings are visible, with a window at the center.
The north elevation displays a broad gable to the outer left, with a window to the right at ground level. To the right, there is a single-storey gabled pavilion with two symmetrically disposed 12-pane timber sash and case windows. An additional piend-roofed, rectangular-plan rubble outbuilding is located to the outer right, featuring arrowslit openings.
The rear elevation is constructed of rubble and includes a lean-to modern cement porch to the outer left, with a window at the center (12-pane sash and case). There are also two gabled outbuilding pavilions, each with boarded doors and letterbox fanlights.
The windows throughout the property include plate glass, Y-tracery, and 12-pane timber sash and case styles. The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring lead flashings, coped sandstone ridge stacks, octagonal cans, and a cast-iron rooflight.
The interior was not seen in 1996.
