Description
Nether Ross Farmhouse is a 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan gabled house, built in 1863, featuring gothick detailing. The exterior is constructed from stugged squared and snecked sandstone rubble, with polished margins and dressings, and has advanced bracketed eaves. The windows are pointed arch, originally fitted with gothick glazing.
On the northeast (main) elevation, there is an advanced gabled bay to the outer right, with bipartite windows at the ground level and pointed-arch bipartites on the first floor. A small gabled off-set porch is located in the re-entrant angle to the right, featuring a modern door and a Y-tracery pointed-arch fanlight. Above the porch is a plaque inscribed "Built by Sir James Colquhoun Bart Lord Lieut. of Dumbarton, 1863." The gabled bay to the right has a bipartite window at the ground level and a single pointed arch, traceried window on the first floor.
The southeast elevation includes a broad gabled bay to the outer right, with a bipartite window at the ground level and a broad pointed arch, traceried window on the first floor. To the left, there is a modern wooden and glass gabled porch.
The windows are a mix of plate glass and Y-traceried timber sash and case styles. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and features lead flashings, along with coped ashlar ridge stacks and octagonal cans.
