Description
Waterside House is a later 18th century, two-storey, three-bay rectangular-plan house, likely raised from a single storey to two storeys in the 19th century. It has good streetscape value due to its long low mass and broad side gables, giving it a simple and vernacular appearance.
The main door on the southeast elevation is set below the current street level, with flanking windows positioned close to the pavement, indicating that the street level has risen over time. The first-floor windows are evenly spaced and located near the eaves.
Inside, there is a noticeable drop from the street to the floor of the house. The ground and first floors feature low ceilings and thick walls typical of a property of this age. The interior has been largely modernised and reconfigured, including a large conservatory extension on the northwest elevation.
The rear first-floor elevation remains unaltered, with windows arranged in the outer bays and an advanced gabled central outshot. The northeast elevation includes a single-storey lean-to that has been extended to the rear.
Originally, a passageway ran from South Church Street between the southwest elevation and the rear of the nearby Waterside Cottage, which is listed separately. This passageway has been filled in with a small flat-roofed extension belonging to Waterside House. There is a small casement window in the southwest gable.
The house is finished with white painted render on all elevations, multi-paned timber sash and case windows, and a modern uPVC main door. The rear features a pair of large modern uPVC canted dormer windows. The roof is pitched with grey slate and has coped rendered gable apex stacks with various cans.
