Description

This is an early 19th century building comprising a two-storey house and attached, single-storey former outbuildings, now used as a post office and shop. The building is located in Tarbet, Loch Lomond And The Trossachs National Park.

The main house is rectangular, three bays wide, and constructed of painted rubble with painted ashlar margins and dressings, including quoin strips, a base course, an eaves band, and advanced eaves. The front elevation features a central pair of doors; the left door is a two-leaf boarded door, while the right is a modern uPVC door. Flanking these are windows, with a four-pane sash and case window to the left and a plate glass with top-hung window to the right. The first floor windows are symmetrically positioned under the eaves, and consist of a twelve-pane sash and case window in the centre, an eight-pane sash and case to the right, and a plate glass with top-hung pane to the left.

The attached, L-shaped former outbuildings are located to the left of the house. A two-bay link block connects the house to the outbuildings and contains a modern uPVC door and a four-pane sash and case window. A rectangular-plan gabled block is aligned to the right, featuring a door with a canted window and modern multi-paned windows.

The windows throughout are timber sash and case, with some containing plate glass top-hung upper panes and modern multi-paned replacements. The main house has a grey and purple piended roof, lead flashings, and red sandstone corniced wallhead stacks with octagonal cans. The former outbuildings have a grey slate roof with lead flashings. The interior was not inspected in 1992.
