East Most Cottage, Milton Farm

East Most Cottage, located at Milton Farm, is a semi-detached cottage built around 1800 as part of the Duke of Montrose's Buchanan Castle Estate. It is one of a pair of symmetrical, harled, 2-storey cottages situated in the village of Milton of Buchanan. These cottages contribute to the streetscape and hold historical significance related to the village's development.

The main façades of the cottages face south, towards the road running through Milton of Buchanan. Their proximity to Milton Farm suggests they were originally intended to house farm workers. Originally, the structure contained four separate dwellings, but these were combined into two during the 20th century.

The cottages share a long, shallow piended roof and each features a 3-bay front elevation with a centrally located timber boarded door and two near-square windows on the first floor. A single-storey lean-to extension was added to the rear, likely in the early 20th century. Flat-headed dormers, possibly from the same period, interrupt the eaves on the first floor, with two on each side, and the outer windows include a central timber mullion. Each cottage also has a single window on the ground floor of the east and west side elevations.

The interior of Westmost Cottage has been modernized, while access to Eastmost Cottage was not available as of 2004.

The exterior features white-painted harl with painted stone margins, timber sash and case windows with mostly 12-pane glazing, and 6 horizontal-pane glazing on the first floor of the front elevation. The roof is covered with graded slate, featuring a central ridge stack and wallhead stacks with slated shoulders on each side gable. All stacks are harled and topped with circular cans, and the property includes mostly cast iron rainwater goods.
