Ns45869/88850, Well House, Buchanan Castle Estate

The Well House, likely built in the early 19th century, is located on the Buchanan Castle Estate, near Old Buchanan House and surrounded by trees. This circular structure is constructed from rubble and features five bays separated by six perpendicular ashlar buttresses, each topped with coping and square capstones. The southeast bay has a timber-boarded door with a blind rectangular opening above it. The two adjacent bays contain narrow round-arched openings, each with blind square openings above and framed by ashlar margins. The shallow domed brick roof is hidden beneath a corniced wallhead. Inside, the well house has a stone flagged floor and a central circular well shaft. The Well House is part of the Buchanan Castle estate, which is recognized in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.
