Description

Sluggan Bridge is a military bridge built in 1729-30 by General George Wade, with substantial repairs made between 1830 and 1840. It features a single span and is constructed from rubble, with drystone causeway approaches from both the east and west banks. The dressed rubble arch ring springs from squared rubble footings, and there are slight remains of a parapet along the structure. The bridge has a turf roadway and a pinned rubble buttress located on the south side of the west bank causeway. The approximate span of the bridge is 65 feet.
