Description

Newtonmore Station is a late 19th-century railway station, likely designed by William Roberts, and dating from 1893. It originally opened in 1863 by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway before being rebuilt by the Highland Railway. The station is a symmetrical, single-story building arranged in an H-shape on the down platform. It is constructed from coursed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The platform front has seven bays, featuring a canopy which connects the outer gabled bays and is supported by wooden columns with decorative brackets. The windows are mullioned and transomed, mostly with two panes of glazing, and include an inset clock and drinking fountain. A gabled porch is located at the rear, on the north-east side. The building has coped end stacks, apex gable finials, and a slate roof. A Highland Railway monogram is present in the south gable. A footbridge, previously part of the station, was removed from the list on September 30, 1988.
