Signal Box, Kingussie Station

This signal box dates from 1894 and was designed by Mackenzie and Holland for the Highland Railway Company. It is a plank and strip weather-boarded structure of rectangular plan, located at grid reference NH 75692 00412. The building was extended to the west by Network Rail in 2007.

The original signal box features four-pane glazed windows to the locking room. The signal cabin is reached by a metal forestair, which replaced the original timber construction. Continuous glazing runs along the operating room, with four-pane glazing to the platform side returning to the gables. The building has projecting eaves and timber bargeboarding.

The large western extension is supported on a metal frame. The roof is covered in corrugated sheeting, following the replacement of the original slate roof and timber forestair in the early 1970s.
