Description
Gelder Shiel with Outbuilding is a single-storey, gabled, T-plan stalking refuge or bothy built in 1865, accompanied by a single-storey rectangular-plan free-standing store at the rear. The structure is made of squared, coursed, and stugged granite.
The southwest elevation features three bays, with a slightly advanced gabled entrance bay at the center that includes a two-leaf, part-glazed door and a shield panel above, flanked by windows. The return elevations are gabled, each with narrow windows; the rear elevation has a blind window and a blind arrowslit in the gablehead.
The rear wing has a lower ridge and includes a window to the northwest and a door in the re-entrant angle to the southeast, with a blank gabled return.
The outbuilding, located to the northeast of the shieling, has a gabled roof and a two-leaf boarded door at the center of its southwest elevation, while the remaining elevations are blank.
The windows are timber cross and transomed casement types, and the roofs are covered with grey slate featuring ashlar coped skews, bracketed skewputts, and clay ridges. There are diamond ashlar stacks at the gableheads of the shieling.
