Description
Auchendoune is a mansion built in two stages, in 1902 and 1906, designed by Watson and Salmond. It has one and two storeys, along with a cellar and attic, and features an irregular plan. The ground storey is constructed of rubble, while the upper levels are plastered with ashlar dressings. The entrance is located in the north-east re-entrant angle and is accessed through a canted gabled two-storey porch. The windows are asymmetrically placed casement windows with configurations of two, three, and four lights.
To the east, there is a canted two-storey bay with a battered ground storey and angle buttresses. The south elevation includes two projecting bays, one square and one canted, which are linked by a loggia that has a central door. Above the square bay, there is an ashlar cove with two set-back gables, featuring contrasting windows in the attic, and the date 1902 is inscribed above the east window. Additionally, there is a large two-storey canted bay added in 1907 at the north end of the northern wing, topped with a bell-cast roof. All chimneys have diamond flues, and the roof is later covered with red tiles.
