Description
Williamfield, located at 26 Berkeley Street in Stirling, is a house dated 1682 with additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a two-storey, three-bay L-plan structure featuring crow-stepped gables and a prominent two-storey canted bay window. The exterior is finished in white rendered masonry and includes a base course and sloping cills.
The principal elevation faces south and features a single-leaf timber panelled door set within a gabled porch, which is supported by square-plan Doric pilasters at the center. To the right, there is a canted window that is corbelled to a square and topped with a shallow-pitched gable, while a wallhead gable is located to the left. A datestone is set in the re-entrant angle of the rear (north) elevation, above which is a large stair window and a recessed bay to the left. A piend-roofed wing projects to the north, featuring a low two-leaf door off-center to the right and deeply set windows on both storeys.
The windows predominantly have four-pane glazing and are timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are coped gable stacks, including a substantial square stack on the north wing, along with some remaining octagonal chimney cans.
Inside, the house retains 19th-century cast-iron fireplaces, windows, and shutters. There is a buffet niche in the ground floor room, likely the former dining room. The stair hall features a large margined window and a staircase with a decorative iron balustrade.
