St Ninians, 5 Kirk Wynd

St Ninians, located at 3 Kirk Wynd, is a small group of vernacular dwellings constructed in 1629, with additional work completed in 1674 and further alterations made in the late 20th century. The buildings are prominently situated near St Ninian's Old Parish Kirk.

The main structure features a crowstepped design with two stories and a dormerless attic, consisting of seven bays and a rectangular plan. This part, dated 1629, faces Main Street and has a forestair at the rear overlooking a small courtyard. There is also a tall single-storey, six-bay cottage, which was originally two dwellings, facing Kirk Wynd. This cottage includes a former byre and hayloft, dated 1674, that projects from the rear and also overlooks the courtyard. Additionally, there is a crowstepped two-storey and dormerless attic, three-bay, T-plan pair of houses at the rear, dated 1677. The exterior is finished in dry dash with contrasting squared rubble margins, and many openings have been enlarged over time.

The entrance elevation of 31A and 31B Main Street faces west, featuring a door slightly left of center, with first-floor openings that may be original and a chamfered angle to the left. The Kirk Wynd elevation to the north has a semicircular stone archway that connects to No 1 Kirk Wynd and leads to the rear courtyard. The courtyard elevation includes a rebuilt forestair leading to a door on the first floor to the left and a small lean-to bay at the outer left.

No 1 Kirk Wynd, which was formerly two cottages, has an entrance elevation facing north with doors flanked by windows, although the left door is no longer in use. A lean-to bay on the right adjoins the archway mentioned earlier. The rear elevation to the south features a projecting range at the center that has been incorporated into the dwelling, with steps leading up to a center door dated 1674 below a swept hayloft opening.

The symmetrical entrance elevation of 3 and 5 Kirk Wynd faces north and includes an architraved doorway, likely from a later period, with a catslide entrance bay projecting at the center. The five-bay rear elevation to the south has a door dated 1677 to the right of center.

The windows are replacement timber sash and case with small pane glazing patterns, and the roofs are covered with grey slates. The buildings feature coped dry-dash stacks with some chimney cans, as well as coped ashlar and crowstepped skews with moulded skewputts.

The interior of No 1 Kirk Wynd has been comprehensively modernized as of 2009.
