Description
The weir at Deanston Mills, built around 1827 by James Smith for James Finlay and Co, is a significant structure located on the River Teith. This massive gravity dam is faced in sandstone ashlar and is designed as a self-clearing type, set diagonally across the river. It features a log trap on the northern side and a fish ladder on the southern side. The tail of the weir is fish-tailed. On the southern side, there is a masonry wall with sluices, which include cast iron frames and hakes for trapping leaves and other debris, serving the lade to the mills.
