Description

Blair Drummond House is a large country house dating primarily from 1868 to 1872, designed by J.C. Walker of Edinburgh. It incorporates the site of an earlier house, first planned by Alexander McGill in 1715 (documented in Vitruvius Scoticus), with a later southwest wing added around 1825. The original house stood lower in the park, but was completely demolished between 1872 and 1873 to make way for the new design. The current house is constructed of snecked rubble, in a baronial style, with some areas treated boldly and featuring good sculpture. The building is three and four storeys high, with a basement and a two-storey section. Plans from 1868 show initial proposals for a southeast wing and porte cochere, but these were abandoned in favor of building an entirely new house. The house has since been converted into flats and includes the terrace with urns.
