Description
The terraces with urns form part of Blair Drummond House, a complex of buildings constructed between 1868 and 1872. The work was undertaken by J.C. Walker of Edinburgh, and built of snecked rubble with boldly treated details and good sculpture in a baronial style. Some sections are three- and two-storey with a basement, while a tower rises four storeys. The terraces have been converted into flats.
Plans from 1868 initially proposed a matching south-east wing and porte cochere. However, these plans were superseded by a decision to construct a completely new house on the estate, leading to the demolition of the earlier building between 1872 and 1873. The former house, depicted in plans by Alex McGill dating from 1715 (as recorded in Vitruvius Scoticus), had previously stood lower in the park, with a later southwest wing constructed around 1825.
