Description

50-52 High Street in Dunblane is a later 19th-century, two-storey building with an attic, designed in a classical tenement style and featuring shops on the ground floor. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked, tooled sandstone courses with ashlar margins.

The principal elevation has a single bay on the left with a plate glass and timber-framed shop front that includes a recessed entrance. Above this, there is a timber fascia that ends in a projecting timber cornice with outer consoles. In the center, there is a pilastered entrance to the tenement, featuring a timber panelled door and a fanlight, with an architrave that continues from the left bay. To the right, there is a double bay with a plate glass and timber-framed shop front that has a central recessed entrance, broad timber architrave, and a projecting cornice above, which is consoled to the outer right. The second storey windows have moulded architraves and projecting cornices, with a single window in the center flanked by stone mullioned, bipartite windows. The eaves are marked by a projecting cornice that leads to a coped parapet. There is a battered wallhead stack at the center with a small window, flanked by wallhead dormers that break the parapet and feature heavily moulded pediments.

The rear elevation was not visible in 2001, and both side elevations are obscured by adjacent buildings. Inside, there is timber panelling and plinths in the bay window displays, while the upper storeys were not seen in 2001. The right bay features plate glass, timber-framed, sash and case windows on the upper storeys, while the center and left bays have double-glazed, tilt-and-turn windows. The ground floor has plate glass shop windows, and the concealed pitched roof is covered with grey slates and lead flashing.
