Description
The Old Schoolhouse on King Street in Doune is a mid-19th century building that underwent significant alterations in 1899. It is a single-storey structure with an attic, constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings. The building has an asymmetrical layout, featuring a former school room in a projecting bay. This bay includes a bipartite window at ground level and a small pointed light above, which is adorned with a hood mould. The corners are accentuated with chamfered quoins, and the gable head is stilted, topped with a Gothic canopied bellcote.
The entrance door is set within a recessed facade and is sheltered by a projecting gabled porch supported on brackets. To the right of the door is a narrow window, while to the left is a tripartite window. At the wall-head, there is one large gabled bipartite dormer and a smaller gabled dormer. The building features straight skews, a corniced end, and one axial stack, all beneath a slate roof.
