Description

Manse Mews Buildings, located on Stuart Street in East Kilbride, date back to 1838. This two-storey, three-bay former manse features single-storey bowed wings and a rear U-plan courtyard, which have been converted into mews cottages. The building is constructed from squared sandstone and includes a base course, a cornice course, and piended roofs for both the main house and the wings, while the mews cottages have gable roofs.

On the southeast elevation, there is a projecting central bay topped with a shallow triangular pediment. The central door frame is notable for its pilasters, double-depth entablature, projecting cornice, and pediment, all painted white. Above the central door, there is a single window on the first floor, with additional single windows flanking the central projection on both the ground and first floors, as well as on the wings.

The southwest elevation features bipartite windows on the bow of the wing, with a single-storey range extending to the rear. There is a door in the right bay, a flanking window, and two pairs of square single windows to the left.

On the northwest (rear) elevation, there is a one-and-a-half storey, single-bay extension that is harled and painted in the center. This elevation includes a single window at ground level, with a door and window above on the right return and a blind left return. Single windows flank the extension at ground level, with the right window having a blocked upper half. There are three single windows at regular intervals on the first floor, and small windows flank the central window to the right. The ranges extend to the right and left, both ending in blind gables. Inside the right range, there are single windows in the left bay, a flanking door, two pairs of single windows in the center, and an entrance door at the end. The left range has a single window in the right return, a flanking door, a pair of single windows, a single window and door, and a single window at the left.

The northeast elevation mirrors the southwest with bipartite windows on the bow of the wing and a range extending to the rear, which includes a blocked door in the left bay and a sequence of six windows.

The building features sash and case glazing, with a variety of window configurations including 4-pane, 6-pane, 10-pane, and 12-pane styles. All buildings have slate roofs, with large corniced stacks at the wallheads of the main house featuring chamfered corners, while the ranges have straight skews and no stacks.

The boundary wall is a coped rubble wall with a cast-iron gate.
