Description
Easter Farmhouse is a house built around 1782, with subsequent alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical building in a plain classical style, accompanied by detached single-storey outbuildings that form three sides of a courtyard. The main house is constructed of droved pink sandstone ashlar with polished dressings, while the west side and rear are of squared and coursed rubble, with the west side having been re-faced in sandstone ashlar. A base course and eaves course are visible, with raised margins to the windows and raised, channelled quoins.
The south elevation (the principal facade) features a later, advanced pilastered and corniced doorpiece in the centre bay at ground level. This contains a two-leaf timber panelled door with a rectangular fanlight above. There is a window at each floor in each of the bays flanking the doorpiece. The north elevation (the rear) is irregular, with a pitched brick addition containing a single window set high in the bay to the left of the centre. Windows are also present at the first floor in the bay to the left, at ground level in the bay to the outer left, at ground level set high in the bay to the centre, and at each floor in the bay to the outer right. The west and east side elevations are blank.
The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case windows (with 8-pane to the centre rear). The roof is grey slate, with a small skylight to the rear. Ashlar coped wallhead stacks are present on the east and west sides, topped with polygonal cans. Decorative ashlar coped skews have scroll skewputts, and cast-iron rainwater goods are fitted, although some have been replaced on the rear. The interior was not inspected in 1997.
The outbuildings are constructed of squared and coursed pink sandstone rubble with polished dressings, and also have an eaves course. The east outbuilding has modern sliding garage doors at ground level to its gabled end, with an oculus in the gablehead above. A lean-to conservatory with a stone base and glazed superstructure is attached to the house on the west (courtyard) elevation. The west outbuilding features boarded doors on its front, side, and rear elevations. The north side of the west outbuilding is a blank gabled wall with a decorative gablehead stack.
The outbuildings also have grey slate roofs, ashlar coped stacks, ashlar coped skews with decorative cylindrical skewputts, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The gatepiers are square-plan pink sandstone with a cornice and shallow pyramidal cap. Curved pink sandstone ashlar boundary walls with a curved cope are present, along with replacement wrought-iron railings and gates.
