Description
The statue located in West Town was created around 1815 by Robert Forrest for Colonel Robertson of Hallcraig. It is a stone sculpture, approximately life-sized, depicting a Highland chief, and stands on a tapering stone plinth with a moulded coping. An inscription on the plinth states, "This statue was erected at Hallcraig Lanarkshire year 16.11 L/ght Col Alexander. Removed from hence to Ayrshire on 10th of May and placed here on the 8th June 1861." The statue was moved from an unknown location to West Town on 16th October 1929 by Arthur W. Robertson Cunninghame, the great-granddaughter of Alfreda M. Greenshields.
