Description

134 Bentinck Drive in Troon is a Free Style house built around 1910. It is an asymmetrical, two-storey building with four bays, arranged in a 1-2-1 pattern, featuring gabled bays at the center that are advanced to the right. There is a conservatory addition that is recessed to the outer left. The exterior is finished in painted harl with overhanging eaves, and the gableheads have coursed sandstone infills. The roof is covered with red tiles and is piended.

On the entrance elevation, there are steps leading to a part-glazed, two-leaf timber panelled door located in the advanced gabled bay, which is offset to the right of center. Above the door, there is a consoled balcony with Art Nouveau style iron railings. At the first floor, a two-leaf small-paned French door is aligned above the entrance. To the left of the entrance, there is a three-light segmental arched window at ground level, with a two-light window above it at the first floor and a slit opening centered beneath the apex. The outer left bay features a shallow-bowed, five-light window at ground level and a single boat-headed dormer breaking the eaves above. The outer right bay is recessed and contains three regularly disposed windows at ground level, with a two-light box-dormer breaking the eaves above.

The house has replacement small-pane leaded glazing throughout, a red tile roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Coped, harled ridge stacks flank the center, topped with circular terracotta cans.

Inside, the house features timber panelling and a timber balustraded stair with ball finialed timber newels. There is decorative plasterwork on the ceilings, various timber and plaster cornices, and a timber fireplace with sculpted egg-and-dart banding.

The property is enclosed by a boundary wall with sandstone coping, which is stepped and harled. Square-plan piers flank both the pedestrian and vehicular entrances, featuring polished coping and ball-shaped finials, along with Art Nouveau detailing on the iron gates.
