Description
The Steven Memorial Fountain, located on the Esplanade in Ayr, was designed by the Steven Brothers and is dated 1892. This painted cast-iron fountain features a four-stage design. It has a circular lipped base and a square-plan pedestal with disengaged angle shafts. The fountain is adorned with nautical decorative detailing and displays the Burgh Arms plaque on all faces. Above, a large basin is naturally moulded, supported by dolphins and putti that hold up a smaller basin. The upper basin is supported by a baluster and is topped with an otter on a ball finial, which holds a fish in its mouth.
