32, 34, 36, 38 Smith Street, Ayr

32, 34, 36, and 38 Smith Street in Ayr is a later 19th-century, three-storey, four-bay tenement that includes shops on the ground floor and is part of a terrace. The building is constructed of polished red ashlar and features a shopfront cornice, a cill course on the second floor, an eaves course, a cornice, and a balustraded parapet. The first-floor openings are pedimented, with segmental arches on the outer bays and additional consoled pilasters on the inner bays. The windows on the second floor are also framed by consoled pilasters and cill blocks.

The southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has four shops on the ground floor, each with inner entrances that include glazed timber doors and shop windows. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with tripartite windows in the outer bays. The predominant windows at the upper floors are timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features a central corniced wallhead stack that rises from the parapet, along with gablehead stacks and circular cans. The interiors were not seen in 1998.
