Description
Killochan Castle is a notable mansion house from the end of the 16th century, designed in an L-plan with some modifications. A distinctive feature is the round tower at the southeast corner, which is quite unusual. This tower is positioned in the re-entering angle of the wings and serves as an entrance porch that leads to an impressive staircase in the north wing, featuring square steps and landings that are 5 feet wide. The hall occupies the entire first floor, while the stair to the upper floor is located in the angle turret above the entrance porch. This arrangement of staircases and the entrance porch is a characteristic feature often seen during this period. The upper floors are divided into several bedrooms, and the parapet on the south side is notably high, with eaves that are unbroken by dormers.
