Description
Bargany House is a main two-storey and basement U-plan house built in 1681, featuring an intact five-window east facade. The facade includes moulded window surrounds and sculptured dormer heads on the first-floor windows, one of which is dated. The central main floor doorpiece has been converted into a French window. Inside, there is notable wood and plasterwork from the 17th and mid-18th centuries. Between 1845 and 1846, a two-storey and basement drawing room wing with bay windows was added, designed in the style of William Burn's Jacobean architecture, complete with crow-stepped gables and a French rococo interior. Extensive work was carried out in the 19th century. The additions on the west side of the house have re-oriented it, and the main entrance is now highlighted by late Georgian single-storey additions on that frontage.
