Description

Kirk and Kirkyard in Biggings, Papa Stour, is an 1806 symmetrical hall church with a rectangular plan. The exterior features harled walls with stugged sandstone dressings. The east elevation has a two-leaf vertically boarded timber door, with a four-pane timber sash and case window centered in the gable above. At the apex, there is an ashlar birdcage bellcote topped with a pyramidal stone roof and a bell. The north elevation has a twelve-pane timber fixed light window to the left and a sash and case window to the right. The west gable contains a stained glass memorial window depicting a religious scene, while the south elevation features twelve-pane timber sash and case windows flanking the center.

The roof is covered in purple slate, with harled skew copes and ridge tiles.

Inside, the church has timber fittings, including a balustraded front pew with ball finialled newels and turned spindles that match the balustrade of the pulpit, which is centered on the west wall and has symmetrically disposed steps. The ceiling is lined with timber.

The kirkyard is enclosed by a random rubble wall and contains some 17th century gravestones. Square rubble piers flank the gate at the northeast corner.
