St Mary's Chapel And Churchyard, Sand

St Mary's Chapel and Churchyard is a late medieval ruin located in Sand, featuring a roughly L-shaped graveyard. The entrance gate is situated at the northeast corner, with a chancel arch to the south, which is integrated with the wall to the west.

The chancel arch is a segmental-headed structure made of random rubble, representing a fragment of the former chapel. Rubble fragments to the west and east indicate the positions of the nave and the narrower chancel.

The graveyard contains various enclosures made of rubble walls and decorative cast-iron railings. To the south of the chancel arch, there is a classical monument, which is currently in pieces as of 1996, dedicated to the Garriock family. This monument features a stepped base that supports a central funerary urn, flanked by battered memorial stones and topped with a shallow pediment. The enclosure around it is marked by cast-iron obelisk stanchions connected by chain-link.

The graveyard wall is constructed of battered random rubble with a triangular coping, which has been recently rebuilt in some areas. There is also a harled section at the southeast corner.
