Description
The former stables at Crookston House, built around 1880, are a single-storey and attic L-plan stable range with boundary walls that create a courtyard, located 20 meters east of Crookston House. The structure is made of squared and snecked whinstone rubble, featuring pale sandstone dressings. The west wing has three bays with segmental-arched openings on the ground floor, and a gable with shouldered and thistle finials above, flanked by piended dormers that break the eaves. The long wing extends to the east and includes two segmental-arched openings towards its eastern end, with an irregular arrangement of doorways and windows throughout.
The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case designs, while the principal floor has plate glass. The roof is covered with grey slate and has end stacks with clay cans.
The boundary walls are constructed of rubble with rubble coping and ashlar dressings.
