Description

Dunglass Viaduct is a multi-span railway viaduct designed by Grainger and Miller, built around 1840. It features a central span of 40 metres and is constructed from bull-faced, coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. The piers have battered bases, and the structure includes segmental archways with string courses at the impost level. Bold, panelled pylons flank the central arch, showcasing recessed panels that diminish in breadth and a raised blocking course in an Egyptian style, which interrupts the parapet. Below the ashlar-coped parapet, there is a pronounced pulvinated string course.
